LIVINGSTON READS! 2007

LIVINGSTON READS! 2007

Pinckney Community Public Library is pleased to announce our participation in the third annual Livingston Reads! program. This program is supported by the six Livingston County libraries and runs from March 1 through April 30. The purpose of the program is to promote reading and discussion of one book within our county. The book chosen for this year’s read is Montana 1948 by Larry Watson. Distinctive lapel pins are given to readers of the book to foster discussion when the pin is noticed. Several programs based on themes of the novel are planned by our county public libraries. A list of these programs can be viewed on our website, www.pinckneylibrary.org.

A thought provoking read, Montana 1948 has been compared to To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and A River Runs through It by Norman Maclean. The story involves the coming of age of 12 year old David Hayden. David is forced to confront his childhood views of family, small town politics, and racial inequality after an esteemed relative commits a racially motivated crime. Written with a realistic view of the time and place, Montana 1948 is able to transport the reader effectively into David’s world. Montana 1948 is a novel that can be easily read in a few hours.

Several copies of this book (as well as a book on CD) are available at the Pinckney Library. Please come in, pick up your copy and pin, and join in the discussion!
